The Types of Braces

If you have crooked teeth, you may think that traditional metal braces are the only answer. But there are many different types of braces to straighten your smile. Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are still one of the most popular ways to treat crooked teeth and bite problems. Metal brackets are attached to your teeth throughout the length of your treatment. Wires are run through the brackets and are tightened each month at your orthodontics appointments. Tightening the wires slowly brings your teeth into alignment.

For severe orthodontic problems, traditional braces are still the best way to take care of them. While we’ll list other options that are available, sometimes the tried and true method is the best. With advancements in dental technology, braces are made with high-quality steel and designed to be as comfortable as possible.

Invisalign

For conditions that are mild to moderate, Invisalign is a favorite option. Clear aligners are custom-made based on impressions of your teeth. The plastic is designed to be thin and comfortable, but still extremely durable. You’ll change out aligners about every two weeks to slowly shift your teeth into place.

Invisalign is popular because the clear aligners are much less visible than metal braces. And while they still need to be worn around 22 hours a day, they can be taken out for eating and cleaning. You don’t have to remove any foods from your diet and don’t have to learn how to brush in between brackets and wires.

Invisalign for Teens

Invisalign was originally not recommended for teens because it’s a system that relies on making sure you wear aligners. But with Invisalign teen, there’s a blue compliance dot so you can check if your teen has been wearing their aligners like they’re supposed to. Many teens love the benefits that come with clear aligners over metal braces.

Clear/Ceramic Braces

Instead of using metal, clear braces are made using materials that are clear or match the color of your teeth. This is ideal for teens or adults that have orthodontic issues that are too complex for Invisalign, but still want a solution that’s subtler than traditional metal braces. This combines the best aspects of both options.
